An eBook is Just another
eBook without an amazing cover! |
|
|
It's been said that people judge
a book by its cover. An eBook is no different. Folks are drawn to the design of
a book cover. Thousands of dollars are spent by publishers in preparing a book
cover so they will stand out among others. Eye appeal is buy appeal! Remember,
you don't get a second chance to make a first impression, so make sure that
your eBook cover makes a great first impression on your web site. |

Wrapped in a Hideous Looking eBook Cover
How could anything be worse than spending your
valuable time creating a great eBook with valuable information and then wrap it
in a hideous looking eBook cover that would cause a prospective customer to
have a gag reflex.

A Hideous Cover |
A Great Looking Cover |
Folks buying a hard back book at their local book
store or as an eBook on the Net are trying to discern if they can trust the
publisher or not. You can create value in their mind by the presentation of the
eBook that you are selling. A professional eBook cover will certainly increase
your sales.
Have you ever wanted to reach into your screen and
pull out what you saw presented? If you reproduce that feeling in the folks
that are looking at your eBook then the sale is not too far away.
Two Choices: Professional or eBook Cover Maker
There are two effortless and inexpensive solutions
to choose between.
- There are professional graphic artists that you
can hire who will produce an eBook cover for you.
- There are
eBook cover maker or generator programs that help you
publish your own eBook cover.
An eBook generator usually comes with some templates
for your use or you can make your own templates to use with the cover
generator.
Some Tips on Choosing a Professional
While you are looking around you should keep the
following in your mind. If you choose the first option, the cover should be
unique to your product and translate into more sales for you. Getting a
professionally
designed eBook cover will quickly repay for itself. Second, find an image
that says what your product is and make sure you communicate that image to the
graphic artist. Use photos as much as possible. There are fee based photos and
free photos. Remember, you get what you pay for, even though sometimes you
might luck out with the freebees. Third, the graphic vendor that you choose
should give you a money back guarantee just in case you really don't like what
he or she produces for you. Look for a "no questions asked" money back
guarantee.
Which Came First...
You've heard the old adage, "which came first the
chicken or the egg?" You can slightly change the words and ask, "which comes
first the eBook cover or the eBook?" Usually the words of a print book are
black on white or off white paper. However, I am reading a book by Peter Senge.
Peter Senge on organizational learning in which the words
are printed in a deep blue color on an off white page. The cover, on the other
hand, in order to be eye catching should be in color, and there is where the
problems usually arise. Different colors produce different emotions in folks.
Here are some things to think about. First, graphic artists tell me that one
should use a combination between red, blue, black, and white. Yellow contrasted
with black is helpful. There is a reason that the yellow pages are printed on
yellow paper with black type. Another item of interest to you is the font that
is chosen in the eBook cover design. Use a strong font for the title like Arial
Black or Impact. Some artists will tell you that only two fonts are
conventional for an eBook cover, listen to them. Three is stretching it but
might be a possibility if your subject matter calls for it. Remember, the eBook
cover is small so make sure it is readable.
For Pete's sake, don't forget the basics of what
should appear on a cover: the main title, a good sub title, and your name as
author. Some times it is wise to put the URL on the cover but only if it is the
root URL and by that I mean don't list subdirectories and drop the http://.
